The Lost Mumbaikar is the personal travel and storytelling identity of Shiju George; A global road tripper, solo traveler and reflective writer shaped by Mumbai and expressed through the world.

The name does not imply confusion or being directionless. It represents a mindset: curiosity without fear, movement without rigid plans, and learning through lived experience rather than packaged tourism. “Lost” here means being willing to step off the map; physically, professionally, and philosophically.

The Lost Mumbaikar began with a simple goal: to see new places. Over time, I realized the places were never the real story but journey was. Travel was changing me.

What started as sightseeing slowly became a search for perspective. The more countries I visited, the less interested I became in ticking landmarks off a list and the more interested, I became in understanding people, cultures, ideas, and myself.

Like Anthony Bourdain, I learned that some of the most meaningful travel experiences happen around ordinary tables, unexpected conversations, local food, and places that never appear in guidebooks.

Like Che Guevara’s Motorcycle Diaries, I discovered that the road itself can become a teacher. Travel is not always about where you arrive. Sometimes it is about who you become along the way.

Growing up in Mumbai taught me resilience, adaptability, and the courage to keep moving when life becomes uncomfortable. Those lessons travelled with me from the crowded streets of Mumbai to remote mountain roads, deserts, forests, villages, and cities across more than 90 countries.

The Lost Mumbaikar is not about luxury travel, perfect itineraries, or collecting passport stamps. It is about choosing adventure over comfort, experiences over possessions, and stories over photographs.

It is about taking the road less travelled, embracing uncertainty, and discovering that the most powerful journeys often begin where plans end. The destination may give you a photograph. The journey gives you perspective.

Today, The Lost Mumbaikar is a collection of travel stories, road trip adventures, solo travel experiences, family journeys, reflections, and life lessons gathered across the world. Not to show where I have been, but to share what those journeys taught me.
