Dubai Food, Costs, Itinerary & Travel Tips
Dubai Food Guide
One of the most underrated reasons to visit Dubai is its food scene.
Because more than 200 nationalities call Dubai home, the city offers one of the most diverse culinary experiences in the world.
Unlike many destinations where local cuisine dominates, Dubai allows travelers to experience food from almost every corner of the globe.
Whether you want a simple AED 10 shawarma or a Michelin-starred dining experience, Dubai delivers.
Emirati Cuisine
While many visitors focus on international restaurants, I always recommend trying local Emirati food.
Some dishes worth experiencing include:
Machboos
Often considered the UAE’s national dish, Machboos combines rice, spices, and meat or seafood into a flavorful meal that reflects the region’s culinary heritage.
Luqaimat
These sweet dumplings are one of my favorite Emirati desserts.
Crispy on the outside and soft inside, they are typically drizzled with date syrup.
Harees
A traditional dish commonly enjoyed during Ramadan and special occasions.
Simple ingredients, slow cooking, and rich flavor make it a unique cultural experience.
Shawarma Culture
If there is an unofficial street food of Dubai, it is shawarma.
Available almost everywhere, shawarma is affordable, delicious, and perfect for travelers looking for a quick meal.
Many residents have their favorite shawarma spot, and debates about the best one can become surprisingly serious.
Biryani In Dubai
As an Indian living in Dubai, I can confidently say that the city’s biryani scene is exceptional.
From Kerala-style biryani to Hyderabadi classics, Dubai offers incredible variety.
One of the things I enjoy most about Dubai is how easily you can experience authentic regional Indian cuisine without leaving the city.
Fine Dining
Dubai has firmly established itself as a global dining destination.
Visitors can enjoy:
- Michelin-starred restaurants
- Celebrity chef venues
- Rooftop dining
- Waterfront restaurants
- Luxury hotel experiences
Even if fine dining is not your usual style, I recommend experiencing at least one special meal with views of the skyline.
Dubai After Dark
Dubai transforms after sunset.
The cooler temperatures encourage people to head outdoors, and the city takes on a completely different atmosphere.
Dubai Marina Walk
One of my favorite evening experiences.
The combination of illuminated skyscrapers, waterfront cafés, and passing yachts creates a vibrant atmosphere.
Bluewaters Island
Home to Ain Dubai, Bluewaters offers restaurants, cafés, and fantastic views of the Marina skyline.
It is particularly enjoyable after dark.
Rooftop Lounges
Dubai’s skyline was made to be admired from above.
Many rooftop venues offer spectacular views of:
- Burj Khalifa
- Downtown Dubai
- Palm Jumeirah
- Dubai Marina
Beach Clubs
Dubai’s beach club scene has become famous worldwide.
Whether you are looking for a relaxed afternoon or a more energetic atmosphere, there is no shortage of options.
Dubai With Kids
As a parent, I understand that traveling with children requires a different approach.
Fortunately, Dubai is one of the most family-friendly destinations I have visited anywhere in the world.
Why Families Love Dubai
- Safety

What Not To Do In Dubai
Dubai is welcoming and tourist-friendly, but visitors should still respect local laws and customs.
Do Not Ignore Local Customs
Dress modestly when visiting religious and cultural sites.
Do Not Drink Alcohol In Public
Alcohol is permitted in licensed venues, but public intoxication should be avoided.
Do Not Photograph People Without Permission
Especially women and families.
Always ask first.
Do Not Spend Your Entire Trip Inside Malls
Dubai’s malls are impressive.
But the city’s beaches, deserts, historical districts, and outdoor attractions are equally important parts of the experience.
Best Day Trips From Dubai
One of the biggest advantages of Dubai is its location.
Several excellent destinations can be reached within a few hours.
Hatta
Located within the Hajar Mountains, Hatta offers:
- Kayaking
- Hiking
- Mountain scenery
- Heritage attractions
It feels completely different from the modern city.
Jebel Jais
The UAE’s highest mountain.
The drive itself is worth the trip.
Expect cooler temperatures, spectacular viewpoints, and some of the country’s best scenery.
Abu Dhabi
The UAE’s capital city deserves at least a day.
Highlights include:
- Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque
- Louvre Abu Dhabi
- Yas Island
- Qasr Al Watan
Fujairah
Known for beaches, snorkeling, diving, and mountain landscapes.
A refreshing contrast to Dubai’s urban environment.

Final Thoughts
After visiting nearly 100 countries, people often ask me where Dubai ranks among my favorite destinations.
The truth is that Dubai is difficult to compare with anywhere else.
It does not have Iceland’s dramatic landscapes.
It does not have Rome’s ancient history.
It does not have Cuba’s charm.
Yet very few places combine safety, convenience, beaches, desert adventures, luxury, family-friendly attractions, and world-class infrastructure as effectively as Dubai.
I first arrived here in 2010.
I made it my home in 2012.
More than a decade later, the city still finds new ways to surprise me.
And perhaps that is why millions of travelers keep returning.
Dubai is no longer simply a stopover destination.
It has become a destination in its own right.
