A visit to Hallstatt, Austria

A visit to Hallstatt, Austria

Austria might be smaller than the state of Maine, but there are tons of accommodations available for the visitors to make their travel journey smooth. There are many Baroque palaces for a king, mountain scenery, and spa hotels with an extra dimension that will bring well-being to the travel experience. There are different types of stays for different visitors. For example, for families, a stay at a working farm could be an abounding experience for adventure that’s talked about for years, for couples they might relish the rustic mountain hunt. There are options available for budget travelers that include expensive hotels to inexpensive hotels for guest houses, rentals, private homes, and hostels.

When we talk about Austria, we automatically think about the top vacation destination Salzburg a little paradise of Austria that keeps changing from season to season. People often visit Salzburg when they come to Austria but they often miss visiting one of the best places i.e. Hallstatt. When I visited Hallstatt, I visited some amazing places there which are the best vacation spots for the visitors.

1. Salt mine

The Hallstatt salt mine is known for its salt production. For 7000 years, the salt caves have been mined. The mines are still active and some are still open for tourist attraction. The salt mines are provided with affordable rates which usually last for 90 minutes. I missed it since I was there in the Christmas holidays and it was closed on Dec 25th but strongly recommend you witnessing this gem of Hallstatt.

2. The World Heritage-Sky Walk

Those who are looking for a bit of adventure and excitement would want to come to this breathtaking place that is the world heritage view in Hallstatt. The so-called “World Heritage Skywalk” is 350 meters away from the roofs of Hallstatt and offers a beautiful panoramic view of the lake Hallstatt and the impressive mountain scenery. The funicular ride of 10 minutes is one of the fastest funicular rides which we experienced.

3. Hallstatter See

The famous Hallstatter see is situated just outside Hallstatt and its picture-perfect place of Austria. This stunning scenery is so gorgeous that you can spend the whole day doing nothing and admiring the beauty of the lake, mountains, and snow. The mountain lake shows some crystal clear water that is largely unaffected by the pollution. The Hallstatt see is popularly known for fishing, swimming, and snorkeling. It is usually surrounded by a perfect environment at each season. I was just doing nothing since it was winter season but can be ideal for sunbathing in the summer months.

4. Bad Ischl

Bad Ischl is tiny, beautiful and less crowded village which is completely surrounded by the mountains. The discovery of this place started when princess Sophie of Bavaria purchased a villa as a present for his son, the emperor of Austria Franz Joseph. And the royal couple chooses to spend their summer in the villa in Bad Ischl.

I was there at Christmas time and wanted to enjoy snowfall from my balcony so Bad Ischl was the perfect place for the Christmas holidays. I was fortunate enough to witness beautiful snowfall for both the days from the balconies. It’s one of the best stays of my life where we created great nostalgic moments of Austria.

I would recommend the Pan Haus resort which is a 4-bedroom villa and offers a beautiful view of snowy mountains from all the corners of the villa. Luckily, we were the only family so enjoyed the balconies and backyards of the villa exclusively for 2 days.
