Discovering the Many Faces of Oman
The Lost Mumbaikar Presents: The Ultimate Oman Road Trip Series
Chapter 1- Discovering the Many Faces of Oman
One of the first questions I receive whenever someone plans an Oman road trip is, “Where should I stay?” My answer is almost always the same: start with Muscat. While Oman is a country that deserves weeks rather than days, Muscat is the perfect gateway to begin understanding what makes it so special. From here, you can gradually venture further into the country’s mountains, beaches, wadis, deserts and ancient villages, discovering that every direction leads to a completely different experience.
Rather than presenting Oman as a list of attractions, I want to introduce it the way I’ve come to know it over more than one hundred journeys. Every road has revealed a different side of the country, and every return has reminded me that Oman cannot be defined by a single landmark or destination. It’s a collection of landscapes, cultures and experiences that together create one of the world’s finest road-trip destinations.
In the following sections, I’ll briefly introduce the many faces of Oman that have kept me returning for more than two decades. Think of this as an overview that will help you discover what appeals to you most. Whether you’re drawn to pristine beaches, dramatic mountains, emerald wadis, authentic villages or unforgettable road trips, each section offers a glimpse of what awaits. In the coming articles, I’ll explore every one of these experiences in much greater detail, helping you decide where to go, how to get there and how to make the most of your own Oman adventure.
The Lost Mumbaikar Says:
“Every time I think I’ve seen the best of Oman, another road proves me wrong. That’s the beauty of a country that never stops surprising those willing to keep exploring”.
