If Dubai offers the country’s most energetic beaches, Abu Dhabi offers its most peaceful ones.
The capital isn’t just home to beautiful city beaches like Corniche Beach and Saadiyat Beach. Venture beyond the skyline and you’ll discover a completely different coastline.
Rocky cliffs.
Turquoise lagoons.
Untouched stretches of sand.
Hidden coves.
Remote islands.
Long coastal roads where you can drive for kilometres without seeing another soul.
Some of these places feel so untouched that it’s hard to believe you’re still in the UAE.
That’s what surprised me the most.
One weekend, instead of stopping at the Corniche, I simply kept driving west.

But these aren’t the places that stayed with me.
Those memories began once the highways became quieter and the signboards fewer.
That’s when Abu Dhabi revealed its adventurous side.
9. Shuweihat Island – The UAE’s Most Extraordinary Coastline
This was the place that completely changed my perception of Abu Dhabi.
I wasn’t expecting much.
What I found instead looked nothing like the UAE I thought I knew.
Towering rock formations.
Layered cliffs.
Crystal-clear turquoise water.
Hidden coves carved into dramatic limestone landscapes.
Standing there, it felt more like parts of Oman or southern Europe than the Arabian Gulf.
There are no cafés.
No beach clubs.
No crowds.
Just raw nature.
The drive itself is part of the experience.
If you enjoy photography, road trips and discovering places that most tourists never visit, Shuweihat Island deserves a place on your UAE bucket list.
